The suit was filed in January by Vladislav Kroutik, who claims he was injured on the track just a few days after it opened last April in Pacific Highlands Ranch Park, a neighborhood just north of state Route 56 and Carmel Valley. The suit says city officials failed to provide supervision at the track, failed to post warning signs, failed to tell users how to reduce injury risks and failed to establish clear standards and protocol for the track.

While the park was under construction, Kroutik complained about noise from the concrete pump track he attributed to skaters breaking in during evening and night hours. In his suit, he says the track should be rebuilt with dirt to reduce noise. The suit says noise levels in the park exceed city standards established in the San Diego Municipal Code.

The reality is that pumping around in a circle, no matter how fun, loses its excitement after a few hundred laps. In order to keep the rider excited and engaged, a good track has a number of lines to choose from, great flow and adding features that can be jumped are key. How do we determine a successful track?

All good pump tracks flow, and can be negotiated without pedaling or braking. The better tracks also feature opportunities for creative interpretation, with new line options opening up as riders progress in their skills.

We like variety in features, grades, tall, waist high or higher berms that facilitate higher speeds for advanced riders. Remember, a good pump track can be negotiated by riders of all skill levels so why not make it fun and engaging for all riders?

If you visit BMX trails also known as dirt jumps to the uninitiated you might be surprise to see that before any major session, a significant amount of work is performed before riding. Cracks in the faces of jumps are repaired and debris is swept —at a bare minimum. The same is true of BMX tracks; before the start of any major track day, BMX tracks are watered, raked and swept of rocks and other debris.

Compacted soil is susceptible to breaking down, and weather and user-based erosion is to be expected.

Skip to Main Content. Click Here for the latest info Read On Sign In. Rockland Bike Park. What is Rockland Bike Park? Rockland Bike Park is the vision of Madison area cyclists to evolve Rockland Preserve into a family-centered hub for healthy adventures. Rockland Preserve is home to 15 miles of the Singletracks of Rocklandwhich is the best singletrack mountain bike network in Connecticut and is a great place to observe nature, history, or hike, among other activities.

We plan to fundraise, build, and maintain several stages of development at the Route 79 entrance to Rockland Preserve. We have envisioned a master plan of a pump track, a bike skills area, and a natural element playground. Much of the labor will be donated and this is a completely community organized project. We are not asking for tax dollars to complete this park. This is a crowd-funded and crowd-built project for the families in Madison and surrounding towns to have a place to meet and develop healthy habits.

What is a Pump Track? One element of our plan is to install a pump track. A pump track is a continuous loop of multi-level dirt that allows cyclists to generate speed without pedaling. The pump track derived its name from the pumping motion of the upper and lower body used by cyclists for balance while they bike on such a track! Wh y a Pump Track at Rockland Preserve? Besides being a fun activity that gets kids outdoors, riding a pump track is an excellent form of exercise that can be performed by anyone on any non-motorized bike.

A pump track can be used recreationally, as cross training for other sports, or as a way for youngsters to increase bike-handling skills away from traffic. A skills area is a dense area of bicycle challenges that work to improve balance and skill. It is safe and appropriate for various ages and skills.

Many of the challenges at the skills area are already familiar to singletracks users including skinnies log ridesrollers, table tops, and rock challenges. What is a Natural Element Playground? The natural playground at Rockland will share a theme with the bike adventures at Rockland by being integrated to the wild and natural landscape. It will encourage the youngest North Madison area children to think creatively and become active. We are still dreaming of ideas, but here are a few from other playgrounds.
